Early literacy does not mean teaching young children how to read. Instead, it means helping children develop the skills they will need to become successful readers.
Early literacy activities build six language skills that help children make sense of printed words when they start reading. For resources to help develop early literacy skills, choose from the following:
Storytime Book Bundles
Choose from a variety of topics (dinosaurs, colors, pumpkins, things that go, fairy tales, etc.), and get 3 to 5 books and a sheet of corresponding activities. It’s an easy way to include storytime in your day. Call 508-823-1344 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
Early Learning Backpacks
Sprout Early Learning Backpacks are a fun resource for parents and caregivers to encourage reading readiness. Each backpack is themed and typically includes pictures book, educational games or toys and an activity guide to teach concepts related to math science language and social and emotional development. Select from 11 backpacks promoting cause & effect, grouping & categorizing, spatial relationships, memory, problem solving and imitation.
